***Coming Spring / Summer 2027***
One of my fondest memories as a kid was picking wild blackberries near the back woods on my cousin’s sprawling Ohio farm. We’d fill up our plastic buckets, easily eating as many as went into the buckets. Fingers completely purple, we’d head back to the house where Aunt Sharon would scoop us out some vanilla ice cream and let us cover it to the point of overflowing with our fresh-picked berries before settling into watch a movie on the floor of the den, fireplace crackling serenely in the background.
As a suburb-raised kid, picking what I ate felt both wild and freeing– and incredibly delicious!
It’s always been a dream of mine to provide an experience like that for the kids and kids-at-heart of Columbia and the surrounding areas.
Before we even unpacked the moving truck, John and I were on hands and knees with marking tape, an auger bit for an impact driver, hand shovels, and 300 berry plants of 8 different varieties in need of planting! It was our first of so many projects here at Chickadee Springs, and easily the one we’re the most excited about.
